Codex Alimentarius Ractopamine MRLs Held at Step 8
Codex Alimentarius Ractopamine MRLs Held at Step 8
After extensive deliberations on the adoption of the maximum residue levels (MRLs) for ractopamine at the 31st Session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, held June 30-July 4, the Commission decided to hold the proposed MRLs at Step 8. Step 8 is the final step before adoption of a standard by this international body that establishes standards for residues of animal health products. Members of the Commission were requested to submit to the Codex Committee on Residues of Veterinary Drugs in Foods (CCRVDF) available scientific data for consideration at their next meeting in May 2009. This Committee will then determine if further scientific consideration is needed by the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA). The May 2009 Committee deliberations will be considered by the Commission for action at the 32nd Codex Alimentarius meeting in June 2009.
