U.S. Pork Industry Leadership Visits China

A U.S. pork industry team, including USMEF, National Pork Board (NPB) and National Pork Producers Council leadership, is in China this week to attend the World Pork Congress and meet Chinese industry and government officials.

Team members learned about the Chinese pork market while in Beijing and gained a better understanding of several current market access issues.

"The growth in the Chinese market since we were last here in 2005 is truly impressive,” said NPB Chief Executive Officer Steve Murphy. “We have been warmly received by the Chinese people and foresee a bright future for U.S. pork exports to China."

The team was impressed by the potential that exists for increased pork exports to China in the future and encouraged by the pragmatic mindset of Chinese officials toward resolving trade issues.

The team now is in Nanjing, northwest of Shanghai, to attend the World Pork Congress and meet with leaders from other leading pork producing and exporting countries.
