USMEF Promotes U.S. Pork Across China
USMEF is aggressively promoting U.S. pork in China and educating Chinese foodservice and retail marketers the value of featuring U.S. pork in their operations. The United States is the second largest exporter of pork and pork variety meat to the China market, sending more than 46,000 metric tons (mt) of product to that country through Sept. 6, worth an excess of $60 million.
In North China, USMEF held an Oct. 28 seminar for new traders at Shenyang Count Western Restaurant covering many subjects, including market trends, product development and safety, U.S. grading and inspection systems and selling techniques.
Meanwhile, in conjunction with USMEF, Shenzhen Grand Kitchen Restaurant conducted a menu promotion featuring boneless U.S. pork butt, jowl meat, riblet, CT butt and bone-in pork loin. And Northern Dalian Mycal Supermarket held a U.S. pork hotpot promotion Sept. 30 to Oct. 7 at two of its outlets, increasing U.S. pork sales from 4,000 Yuan to 10,000 Yuan per month.
Through USMEF several U.S. pork advertorials were purchased at Yummy Food Magazine, which is influential within the South China foodservice community. USMEF also assisted Atlantic Western Restaurant, which in turn placed a 1-mt order for boneless U.S. pork butt, riblet and bone-in pork loin.
USMEF Opens New Representation In Beijing
USMEF North China Senior Representative Donald Song starts work today (Nov. 27) and will join the USMEF China team in Shanghai this week for the Food and Hotel China trade exhibition before traveling to Beijing to begin his tenure in China's capital city.
A Beijing native, Song has worked in food related industries and will assist USMEF in opening a representative office in Beijing to deepen U.S. red meat industry relationships with key influencers from the Chinese livestock and meat industry, academia, and government. He will also oversee USMEF marketing programs in North China.
"We look forward to Donald's input on the unique challenges and opportunities that exist for the U.S. red meat industry in China" says Joel Haggard, USMEF senior vice president for the Asia Pacific Region.
USMEF currently maintains a representative office in Shanghai, China's main finance, shipping and commercial hub, as well as consultants in Guangzhou and Shenyangin Northeast China. Song initially can be reached by e-mail.
