AQSIQ New Regulation on Inspection and Clearance of Imported Meat Products

China has announced proposed new regulations impacting imported meat products.  These regulations may become effective as early as November 1, 2004.  These new regulations include several potentially trade disruptive stipulations including a zero-tolerance policy towards any pathogenic bacteria for all meat products.

USMEF is preparing comments in response to these regulations and would like to have input from exporters.  The document is available for review in English at the USDA-FAS site as GAIN report CH4016:  http://www.fas.usda.gov/gainfiles/200406/146106601.pdf

Please direct any comments to Kevin Smith, ksmith@usmef.org , before September 3, 2004.
