Celebrity Chef Helps Boost U.S. Pork

Trend-setting celebrity chef Ah Yat has worked with the USMEF to incorporate U.S. Berkshire Boston butt into his Abalone Forum Restaurant menu. Yat is one of the top 10 chefs in Singapore and a member of The Panel of International Chefs for Singapore Airlines.

U.S. Berkshire pork is known as Kurobuta pork in Japan, and is very popular in Japanese cooking.   It now has the highest profile in foodservice and upper-end retail stores in Singapore. In addition to U.S. Berkshire pork, a small quantity of ham made from U.S. Berkshire pork is also available in upscale retail stores in Singapore this Christmas.

Promotions by USMEF are adding to the already high quality image of U.S. pork and beef. More than $3 million in U.S. pork exports were sent to Singapore through September of 2006 – a 50 percent increase over the same period of 2005.
