USMEF Members Invited To Participate In Seminar Events

USMEF members are invited to participate in seminars, trade shows and wine maker dinners planned for Trinidad (Nov. 13) and Nassau (Dec. 5) in cooperation with the U.S. Dairy Export Council, USA Poultry & Egg Export Council and California Wine Institute.

The program consists of a two-part series of educational demonstrations, mini trade shows and wine maker dinners with the goal of bringing in local chefs, importers and food and beverage professionals for the demonstrations and trade shows plus impacting the media and local consumers with the wine maker dinner.

The overall coordination for the event is handled by Josue Merced-Reyes of Caribbean Hospitality Industry Promotional Services. Merced-Reyes and his company have been involved in the food and wine business for many years in the region, in addition to producing and hosting a syndicated radio program throughout the region on gastronomy and wine.

Event Program
9:00 a.m. Demonstration featuring meats, poultry and cheese
12:00 p.m. Trade show featuring attending U.S. companies
4:00 p.m. Wine varietals seminar
7:30 p.m. Wine maker dinner for public and press in addition to trade members, chefs and others

Dates and Locations
Trinidad (Nov. 13): Demonstration at the T&T Hotel & Tourism Institute, trade show at the Kapok Hotel and wine maker dinner at the Battimamzille Restaurant.

Nassau (Dec. 5): Demonstration and trade show at Hilton British Colonial and wine maker dinner at the Graycliff Restaurant.

Approximately 40-60 attendees from local foodservice trade are expected for the seminars and the same for the trade show where you can sample your products. One of the exciting components of the demo is a video will be made of the seminar presentations featuring your products. These videos will be distributed to all the hotel and tourism association members as a follow up to the seminar. The association is committed to using the video as training modules for their members. USMEF hopes to have a library of these videos from various islands by the end of 2008.

The wine maker dinner will be a formal six-course, prix-fixe menu event, with dinner funds donated to the local hotel association, which sponsors teams to Taste of Caribbean and other events. USMEF and our co-sponsors are to donate products to the restaurant (meat, cheese, poultry and wines), in order to offer additional profits to the host establishment for its services.

If you are interested in personally attending the events, and/or contributing meat products for the demonstration and/or dinner, contact USMEF Caribbean Consultant Liz Wunderlich as soon as possible at (830) 997-6319 or wunderlc@hctc.net
