The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced today (July 8) that it had located, culled and tested 29 animals linked to the 12-year-old Texas beef cow with bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE).

The 29 animals were identified as a result of USDA efforts to find offspring and other members of the herd born around the same time as the infected animal.

The samples for testing will be examined at the USDA animal health laboratory in Ames, Iowa. Results will be made known as soon as they are completed, but there is no expectation of more cases.
