BOD Meeting

Communication Stressed At Closing Business Session

Market and industry updates, along with a resolution extension and member participation to increase communication, took place Friday in the business session of the USMEF Board of Directors meeting in La Jolla, Calif.

“Working together, we can truly provide U.S. red meat to consumers around the world,” said USMEF Chair Dennis Erpelding, who opened and closed the meeting. “Collectively we continue to work on increasing communication with partners and funding organizations to achieve this end.”

Members voted to continue the China transparency resolution as USMEF will coordinate with other U.S. organizations to ensure China meets its WTO obligations, including the acceptance of U.S. plant verification.

Additionally, an industry panel consisting of National Pork Producers Council President Jill Appell, National Pork Board President Wayne Peugh, Cattlemen’s Beef Board Chair Ken Stielow, Federation of State Beef Councils President Gary Voogt and Erpelding, answered participant questions and discussed issues like animal identification, free trade agreements and phytosanitary issues.

Reports from yesterday’s committee meetings were given in addition to a report and video presentation on the USMEF Market Expo to Taiwan and Japan in March. Members had the opportunity to see USMEF in action and gain in-depth understanding of these markets. Checkoff and funding organizations can receive a copy of the video. Contact USMEF to obtain a copy.

USMEF members are encouraged to attend the next meeting, Oct. 29-31 in Washington, D.C.
