Government Asks Supreme Court To Review Beef Checkoff Case

U.S. Solicitor General Theodore B. Olson on behalf of USDA Secretary Ann Veneman and the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board, have petitioned for a writ of certiorari to review the judgment of the United States Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit, which found the beef checkoff to be unconstitutional. The next step is for the Supreme Court to decide whether it will hear the case. If it decides not to, the 8th Circuit Court decision against the checkoff will stand. If the Supreme Court does hear the case, a final decision on the case will result from its ruling.
