Final Determination On Pork Imports Expected Next Week
It is expected that Justice Wilcox of the Australian Federal Court will make a final determination regarding the challenge to the Australian government’s Pork Import Risk Assessment sometime next week. It is still unclear if product currently en route to Australia would be allowed entry should the court decide that imports pose an unacceptable risk to the domestic hog industry.
Interested parties will have 21 days from the date of determination to file an appeal to Judge’s Wilcox decision. Importers and the Australian government may also request a stay of the determination until an appeal is heard and decided.
Judge Wilcox’s decision can be read online.

Californian Bill Will Add Haulage Fees
The Agriculture Ocean Transportation Coalition (AgOTC) is concerned that a bill in the California state legislature will impact USMEF members by adding security and infrastructure fees to freight costs. The AgOTC wants interested parties to write to the California governor and legislature asking them to exempt agriculture. Details including a sample letter are on the USMEF Web site in the AgOTC section.
