Japan, U.S. make no new proposals at BSE talks
TOKYO, Jan 23 (Reuters) - Neither Japan nor the United States made new proposals at a meeting in Tokyo on Friday to discuss Japan's suspension of American beef, and the two countries appeared no nearer to resuming trade.

TOKYO, Jan 23 (Reuters) - The United States and Japan failed to make any headway on Friday in talks on Japan's suspension of American beef imports, with the two countries appearing no nearer to resuming trade following discovery of mad cow disease in U.S. herds.

WASHINGTON, Jan 23 (Reuters) - Animal health officials investigating the first U.S. case of mad cow disease have identified three animals in Idaho that were herdmates of the infected dairy cow in Washington state, the U.S. Agriculture Department said on Friday.
