UPDATE 2-Japan discovers 7th mad cow case, second in a week

TOKYO, Jan 23 (Reuters) - Japan announced on Thursday the discovery of another case of mad cow disease, the second in less than a week and the seventh since the brain-wasting disease was discovered in the country in September 2001.

Today, Japanese health officials confirmed the nation's seventh case of mad cow disease - the second such case in less than a week.

 

Japanese BSE case not expected to effect market
A sixth case of BSE or mad cow disease has been detected in Japan, but it's not expected to have any major impact on Australia's beef exports.

USDA: January-November 2002 U.S. Agricultural Exports Down

USDA reports US agricultural exports from January to November 2002 declined by almost $1 billion from the same period in 2001 as high-value exports, except vegetable oils and most horticulture products, dropped by varying amounts. Bulk exports, except cotton, increased from 2001, although bulk volume shipments fell slightly.

 

American Farm Bureau ends support for packer ban on livestock ownership

Delegates to the American Farm Bureau Federation's annual convention in Florida this week voted to end the group's support of a legislative ban on meatpackers' ability to own livestock, according to a new release.
