Special Report from Taiwan
Taipei, Taiwan -- No country outside North America eats more U.S. food per capita than Taiwan. This island of 23 million people has been one of America's most loyal agricultural customers, sometimes sourcing 99% of its corn imports from the U.S. Grain Belt. But that near-monopoly is about to end. And competition for U.S. farm products could have important impacts on everything from U.S. corn to soybeans and pork.
Survey identifies Hong Kong as hot QSR market
The ACNielsen survey found that 98 percent of people in Hong Kong eat at quick-service restaurants an average of seven times a month, and many eat at QSRs five times a week. Average spending at QSRs was $60 (USD) a week, with the biggest buyers being working-class men with average incomes, Deutsche Presse-Agentur reported.
Europe
CHILLED FOODS SHINE
Sales of chilled foods, including delicatessen meats and ready-to-eat meats, in the United Kingdom jumped more than 18 percent.
USA
Study shows makeup of meat case is changing
A recent national meat case audit suggests that the allocation of space for store-wrap and case-ready meat is shifting and that retail penetration of heat-and-serve and value-added products has grown significantly since 2002.
TARGETED MARKETING
Swift and Co. focuses on two key U.S. markets.
Hormel, Excel develop new fresh meat packaging format
Hormel Foods Corp. and Cargill subsidiary Excel Corp. have developed a fresh meat packaging format they say increases supply chain flexibility while providing consumers with critical information on product freshness.
