South Korea mulls import certificate changes
South Korean and U.S. trade officials are negotiating proposed changes to U.S. beef export certificates which would prohibit U.S. exporters from shipping to South Korea any beef or beef products that are derived from cattle that have spent any time outside U.S. borders.
Korea Tightens Certification of US Beef
The Korean agriculture ministry has called for greater traceability details on US beef, following the outbreak of BSE in Canada. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) was notified by the South Korean Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of a request for a change in Export Certificate 9035-3.
Australian exports to the country's two biggest Asian beef markets are forecast to grow this year despite the strengthening Australian dollar and supply restrictions.
