National Cattle Group Beefs Up Crisis Response
On Dec. 23, 2003, the United States reported its first case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), which was discovered in a dairy cow in Washington state. That lone case threatened the livelihood of the $62 billion cattle industry, and shook consumer confidence and spending. Employees at the National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA), a trade group based in Denver, postponed their holiday plans and immediately activated their risk management communications.
