Cargill Expands Beef Recall
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Agribusiness giant Cargill Inc. expanded its voluntary recall of beef products to 2.8 million pounds due to an E. coli outbreak that has sickened at least 56 people in the Midwest, the U.S. Agriculture Department said late Wednesday. Milwaukee-based Emmpak Foods, doing business as Peck Meats, expanded last month's recall of 400,000 pounds of ground beef. Excel, a unit of privately held Cargill, purchased Emmpak Foods in August 2001.
