RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, March 27 (Reuters) - Brazil's gross domestic product totaled 1.32 trillion reais ($388 billion) in 2002 in market price terms as expressed in local currency, up from 1.2 trillion a year earlier, the Brazilian Statistics Institute (IBGE) said on Thursday.\

Cow slaughter increases in 2003
Continuing drought and dwindling forage supplies forced increases in cow slaughter during the first two months of this year. Kansas State University livestock marketing specialist Jim Mintert says cow slaughter nationwide was 8.5 percent larger through late February than the same period of 2002. He says this could be an early indication that cow-calf producers will not begin expanding their herds this year.
