Australia boosts Japan beef tariff dispute

SYDNEY, Feb 3 (Reuters) - Australia's cattle industry said on Monday that a looming rise in Japanese beef tariffs to 50 percent could cost Australian beef producers up to A$80 million ($47 million) a year.

 

Drought to maim Australia meat trade for years
SYDNEY, Feb 3 (Reuters) - Australia's 11-month drought would kick the country's meat export industry for years to come, causing an estimated 18 percent loss in beef production to 2005, industry body Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) said on Monday. Even if Australia's 11-month drought broke tomorrow, cattle and sheep industry productivity would not fully recover from the enforced sell off of stock until 2007, said Peter Weeks, MLA's chief market analyst.
