Singapore Meat Marketers Enjoy U.S. Barbecue
More than 180 members of the Singapore foodservice and retail trades attended the “Great American BBQ” last Friday (Aug. 18) at Singapore’s Hard Rock Café. USMEF participated in this event, which is organized annually by USDA Foreign Agriculture Service - Singapore.
Attendees had a chance to sample a wide range of U.S. meat products, prepared by Hard Rock Chefs under the guidance of USMEF Regional Chef Sabrina Yin. U.S. beef items included ribeye, striploin and a beef burger made from ground chuck. U.S. pork items included grilled sausages, hams, pre-cooked barbecue pork ribs and breakfast pork patties served as pork burgers.
One of the attending hotel chefs said he had shied away from barbecue because it seemed to be an outdoor event, and Singapore is too hot. “Now I know we can have a successful indoor barbecue promotion in my hotel utilizing the products from the United States,” he said.
The evening's guest of honor was U.S. Ambassador to Singapore Patricia Herbold.
