Argentina Suspends Imports of U.S. Pork

The USDA’s Food Safety & Inspection Service (FSIS) online Export Library has been updated to reflect a ban imposed by Argentina on all imports of fresh and frozen U.S. pork.  USMEF has no current information on the reason behind the ban, but will update members as information becomes available. Argentina does not allow imports of U.S. beef, lamb or poultry. While pork exports to Argentina have been permitted in the past, it has historically been a very small market. U.S. pork exports to Argentina were about $1.5 million in 2007 and about $1.3 million last year, consisting mostly of variety meat.

“The Easiest Way to Increase Leverage with Railroads” Webinar

The Agriculture Transportation Coalition (AgTC) is recommending a free Webinar entitled, “The Easiest Way to Increase Leverage with Railroads,” on June 30 at 2:00 p.m. EDT.  The Webinar focuses on how preparation for rail negotiations impacts the rates companies get from railroads. The Webinar will cover how to analyze a company’s current rate structure in order to:

  • Educate railroads about the negative impact of rate increases;
  • Focus negotiations on reasonable rates and not rate increases;
  • Show what rate levels are reasonable and unreasonable;
  • Better understand the best source of leverage with railroads; and
  • Obtain better rates.
