Argentina Resumes Beef Exports After FMD Outbreak
Argentina’s beef export industry has revived after the eradication of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) following an outbreak in March, 2001. Argentina’s National Health and Agricultural Quality Service (SENASA) reported yesterday (July 23) that beef is being exported to 42 countries. The last FMD case was reported six months ago.
A SENASA news release says that no new FMD cases have been identified since Feb. 23, 2002 and beef exports resumed on February 1 to the European Union, Egypt and Peru and 39 other countries.
