UPDATE 1-Brazil ports screen ships coming from SARS areas
Brazil has begun screening cargo ships coming from high-risk areas for instances of the flu-like SARS virus before allowing the ships to dock, a government official said on Thursday.

Russia may set fresh beef import quota
Russia may set an import quota on fresh and chilled beef of 11,500 tones for this year, a spokesman for the Economic Development and Trade Ministry said on Saturday.

 

Meat Production:
In Russia, the government says it plans to encourage more domestic meat production this year.  Russia imported $2.1 billion dollars in meat and poultry last year.  But the number would have been higher if the Russians had not imposed restrictions that largely shut off poultry exports from the US for several months.  Russia has imposed tariffs on meat imports as it hopes to reduce its dependence on imported meats.
