While the Caribbean is the largest export destination for U.S. lamb cuts, the region is extremely competitive, attracting large volumes of lower-priced lamb from Australia and New Zealand.

At the recent U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) Spring Conference, USMEF Caribbean Representative Liz Wunderlich updated members on marketing strategies and activities for U.S. lamb in the region, which are made possible through support from the USDA Market Access Program and the Lamb Checkoff.

Due to limited supplies, USMEF emphasizes promotion of alternative lamb cuts such as Denver ribs, sirloin and belly by developing recipes that appeal to high-end dining establishments in the Caribbean. She also highlighted a Father’s Day retail promotion in Jamaica, in which customers purchasing U.S. lamb receive a “Ewe Will Love American Lamb” cooler bag.
