With U.S. red meat exports hitting record levels in Mexico, the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) recently held its inaugural U.S. Red Meat Symposium in Mexico City. With support from USDA, the Beef Checkoff Program and the National Pork Board, the symposium brought U.S. exporters and Mexican importers together to explore the market’s continued growth potential and examine emerging opportunities for U.S. red meat.
Gerardo Rodriguez, who oversees USMEF’s operations in Mexico, says the event offered U.S. companies a great opportunity to meet with key contacts and decision-makers from throughout Mexico at a single location.
For USMEF Chair Randy Spronk, a Minnesota pork and grain producer, the symposium helped drive home the importance of the Mexican market to all sectors of U.S. agriculture.
USMEF President and CEO Dan Halstrom explains that while some are quick to label Mexico a “mature market,” he sees many new opportunities emerging for U.S. red meat.
Funding support for the symposium was also provided by the Indiana Soybean Alliance, Wisconsin Soybean Marketing Board and Nebraska Beef Council.
