The USMEF Strategic Planning Conference wrapped up Nov. 11 in Oklahoma City with the election of a new officer team. Dean Meyer, a crop and livestock producer from Rock Rapids, Iowa, is the new USMEF chair.

Meyer and his three sons raise corn and soybeans on their diversified operation, which also includes a cattle feedlot and a farrow-to-finish hog facility. This provides him with a deep appreciation of the diverse range of agricultural sectors that make up USMEF. In the attached audio report, Meyer discusses how numerous sectors of U.S. agriculture come together to make USMEF successful in expanding global demand for U.S. red meat. He also explains how red meat exports bolster the value of everything his farm produces.

Meyer heads an officer team that includes Minnesota pork producer Randy Spronk, who will serve as USMEF chair-elect in the coming year. The vice chair is Steve Hanson, a cattle rancher from southwestern Nebraska. The newest USMEF officer is Secretary/Treasurer Jay Theiler, executive vice president of corporate affairs for Agri Beef, based in Boise, Idaho.

Additional highlights from the conference are available from the USMEF website.
